Here are some ingredients & smoothie combos for a hangover:
It’s the Sunday after St. Patrick’s Day. If you participated in St. Patrick’s Day festivities this weekend, you probably are here for a reason; to help your hangover. We’re going to look at the best ingredients to use & some different combinations. However, we feel the need to emphasize that these options won’t cure your hangover, but will at least help you get out of bed.
The main culprit of hangovers is typically dehydration. When consuming a lot of alcohol, like any other liquid; you will need to pee. And in extreme cases, you may throw up too. Even when just sweating, your body loses liquids and you become dehydrated.
Smoothies are hydrating. They contain liquids and electrolytes, which is what your body needs. Here are some ingredients that can reduce hangover symptoms:
Ginger: It can help ease nausea. The studies done are usually on pregnant women, but it can work in this case too.
Avocados: Avocados contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which can help as well. They also have a lot of potassium; bananas too.
Mangos: They are a good source of carbs & water which are energizing & hydrating.
Pears: Can help reduce headaches.
Kale & Spinach: They are known for supporting liver health; if your liver is healthy, it can remove alcohol from the body better.
Oats: Contain zinc & L-cysteine, which improve nausea & other symptoms.
Yogurt: Is also known for helping with nausea.
Coconut water: Hydrating. Some studies show it is more hydrating than water, but other studies disagree; it depends on your body.
You could go ahead & just mix all of these together, but here are some good combinations (Some ingredients aren’t listed above, mostly for taste):
Coconut water, banana, mango, avocado, spinach & ginger
Banana, peanut butter, yogurts, oats & a milk of your choice
Coconut water, mango, spinach, lemon juice, raspberries & strawberries
Water, mango, spinach, kale, lime juice, hemp seed & mint
These are some good ones, but it is up to you to mix however you want. Don’t feel like making it yourself? Come over to Blend & Brew & we can make one for you next time!
Oooh! I'll keep these in mind! Do you usually have pears on hand?
I didn't know all of those foods helped that much! I think some people are going to need this information after cornstalk this weekend!
This is such a great idea and definitely helpful for those who had an exciting night that led to a rough morning. It is so enlightening to know all of these fruits and veggies can cure a hangover a healthy way, instead of just going to a local fast food spot to get all the grease to soak up the alcohol.
